How it works
- 1.Trailing spaces are removed and empty lines get an invisible character
- 2.Instagram sees content, so it keeps the line
- 3.The character is invisible, so your caption looks clean
💡 Tips for Better Instagram Captions
Use White Space
Break up long paragraphs. Short, spaced text is easier to read on mobile.
Front-Load Value
Put the most important info first. Only the first 125 characters show before "more".
Hide Hashtags
Add 5 blank lines after your caption, then add hashtags. They'll be hidden under "more".
How to Add a Line Break in an Instagram Caption
Instagram tends to collapse lines that contain nothing but whitespace, so a caption written with neat paragraphs can post as one block. The fix is to put a character on each blank line that looks empty but counts as content. This is the full process with the tool above:
- Write the caption in the box exactly as you want it to look, pressing Enter twice wherever you want an empty line.
- Check the Preview panel. It shows the caption under a mock post so you can judge the spacing.
- Tap Convert & Copy. Trailing spaces are removed from every line, every blank line is filled with one invisible character, and the result goes to your clipboard.
- Open Instagram, start a post, and paste into the caption field. Do not retype or edit the blank lines.
- Share the post and view it in the feed to confirm the spacing held.
The words on each line are left as they are; only spaces at the end of a line and blank lines at the very start or end of the caption are removed. The conversion runs in your browser, and the caption is not sent anywhere.
IG Caption Spacing: Before and After
Here is what typically happens to a caption with blank lines, and what the converted version looks like once posted.

#newdrop #smallbusinessA few formatting patterns that work well with spaced captions:
- Hook, body, call to action. One short opening line, a blank line, the detail, a blank line, then what you want the reader to do.
- Lists. Put each item on its own line, starting with an emoji or a dash. Single line breaks between items are enough.
- One idea per paragraph. Two or three short lines read better on a phone than one long block.
- Consistent casing. If you want a headline line in capitals or title case, the case converter changes it in one click.
Line Breaks in the Bio, Comments, Reels and Threads
The same copied text can be pasted into other fields. Behavior differs a little by place:
| Where | What to know |
|---|---|
| Bio | Limited to 150 characters, and every invisible character counts as one. Editing the bio in a mobile or desktop browser is another common way to keep line breaks. |
| Reels captions | Same caption field and the same 2,200-character limit as feed posts, so the converted text works the same way. |
| Comments | Pasting pre-formatted text is the reliable route, because the Return key is not always available in the comment box. |
| Threads | Threads generally keeps line breaks as typed. The tool is only needed if you see blank lines disappear after pasting. |
Instagram Caption Length: The Numbers That Matter
- 2,200 characters is the maximum caption length, including spaces, emoji, hashtags and the invisible characters this tool adds.
- Around the first 125 characters are shown in the feed before the caption is cut off with "more". The exact cut-off varies with the device and layout, so treat it as a guide.
- Up to 30 hashtags are allowed per post. Most accounts use far fewer.
- 150 characters is the limit for the bio.
The counter above the text box shows the length of the converted caption, the text that is actually copied, against the 2,200 limit, and a warning appears if it goes over. Each blank line adds one character, and removed trailing spaces are not counted. For a fuller breakdown of words, characters and sentences while drafting, use the word counter.
Troubleshooting: When the Line Break Still Disappears
Trailing spaces at the end of a line
A space after the last word or punctuation mark of a paragraph is a classic cause of lost breaks. The tool removes spaces and tabs at the end of every line when it converts, so you do not need to hunt for them. If you add a space at the end of a line after pasting into Instagram, the break below it can disappear again.
Emoji at the end of a line
Some users find a break is dropped when the line before it ends with an emoji. If that happens, move the emoji earlier in the line or end the line with a period or a word.
Pasting from Notes or a document editor
Notes apps and word processors can add their own formatting or change characters when you copy. Draft wherever you like, but paste the draft into this tool and copy from here as the last step, then paste straight into Instagram.
Editing after you paste
If you delete a blank line inside Instagram and press Return to add it back, the new line is an ordinary empty one and may be removed. Fix the text here and paste it again.
The caption was cut short
Check the character counter. Text beyond 2,200 characters will not fit, so shorten the caption or drop a few hashtags.

Why This Tool Matters for SEO
Instagram's text formatting is notoriously frustrating. When you type a caption with clean line breaks in the app, Instagram often removes them, leaving your text as one long, hard-to-read paragraph. This tool solves that problem by inserting invisible Unicode characters that Instagram recognizes as valid content, forcing it to preserve your carefully crafted spacing. The result? Professional-looking captions that are easier to read and more engaging.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Instagram remove line breaks?
Instagram's app automatically strips out "empty" line breaks to save space. If a line contains only whitespace (spaces, tabs, or newlines), Instagram considers it empty and removes it, and a stray space at the end of a text line can make the following break disappear too. This tool removes those trailing spaces and puts an invisible character (Braille Pattern Blank - U+2800) on each blank line. It looks like a space but is recognized as content, preventing Instagram from removing the line.
How do I use this tool to make captions more readable?
Simply type your caption with the spacing you want. Press Enter twice to create a blank line between paragraphs. Then click "Convert & Copy" and paste directly into Instagram. The tool automatically converts your blank lines into preserved spacing that Instagram won't remove.
What is the invisible character used?
We use the Braille Pattern Blank character (Unicode U+2800). It's completely invisible but counts as content, so Instagram preserves the line. This is the same technique used by social media managers and influencers worldwide.
Will this work on Instagram Stories?
This tool is primarily designed for Instagram feed captions. Instagram Stories have different text formatting that allows line breaks natively. However, you can still use this tool for Stories if you're copying text from elsewhere.
Can I use this for other social media platforms?
Yes! This technique works on any platform that strips empty lines, including LinkedIn, Facebook, and some messaging apps. The invisible character trick is universal and works across most text systems.
Is there a character limit?
Instagram captions have a 2,200 character limit. The counter above the text box shows the length of the converted caption in real time, so it already includes the invisible characters (1 per blank line), and it turns red with a warning when you go over 2,200.
