High-quality PDF to Word conversion
This tool extracts the text content from your PDF and places it into a clean Word document, preserving basic line breaks and paragraph structure. It's ideal for contracts, articles, reports, and other text-heavy documents.
How to convert PDF to Word in 3 simple steps
- Upload your PDF file (up to 4 MB) using the drag-and-drop area.
- Click the “Convert to Word” button and wait for processing.
- Download your new DOCX file and start editing in Microsoft Word or Google Docs.
Important: How this converter handles formatting
This tool focuses on extracting text content. Complex layouts with multiple columns, tables, or many images may not look exactly the same in Word. For best results, use it on text-focused PDFs like contracts, articles, legal documents, invoices, and reports.
How to Convert PDF to Word: What Happens to Your File
It helps to know what happens between choosing a file and downloading the result, because it explains what the output looks like.
- When you click Convert to Word, your PDF is uploaded to our server. The conversion does not run in your browser.
- The server reads the text layer of the PDF, which is the selectable text stored inside the file.
- Each line of text becomes a paragraph in a new DOCX document.
- The DOCX is sent straight back to your browser, where the download button appears.
The file is handled in memory for the duration of that single request. The converter does not save the PDF or the Word document to storage, and no account is required. As with any online converter, think twice before uploading highly confidential documents.
The result is a clean, editable text document that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages. It is a text extraction, not a visual copy of the page.
What Converts Well and What Does Not
| PDF content | Result in the DOCX |
|---|---|
| Text-based PDFs exported from Word, Google Docs or similar | Good. All text is extracted with line breaks kept. |
| Contracts, articles, reports, letters | Good. Ready to edit after tidying paragraphs. |
| Headings, bold, italics, fonts, colors | Not carried over. Everything arrives as plain body text. |
| Tables | Text is kept, but the grid is lost. Cells arrive as separate lines. |
| Multi-column layouts | Text is kept, but the reading order may be mixed. |
| Images, logos, charts, signatures | Not included. |
| Scanned or image-only PDFs | Not supported. There is no text to extract. |
| Password-protected or encrypted PDFs | Not supported. Remove the password first. |
Scanned PDFs and OCR
A scanned PDF is a set of page photographs. Turning those into editable text requires OCR (optical character recognition), and this converter does not include OCR. If you upload a scan, you will see a message that the PDF appears to be empty or to contain only images.
A quick test: open the PDF and try to select a sentence with your cursor. If you can highlight individual words, the file has a text layer and will convert. If the whole page selects as one image, run it through an OCR tool first.
Why Formatting Breaks, and How to Fix It in Word
A PDF does not store paragraphs, headings or tables. It stores characters at fixed positions on a page. Any converter has to guess the structure back, and this one keeps to the reliable part: the text and its line breaks. The usual clean-up takes a few minutes:
- Lines that break mid-sentence. Every PDF line becomes its own paragraph. In Word, use Find and Replace to swap paragraph marks (
^p) for a space within a selected block, or rejoin lines by hand in short documents. - Lost headings. Select each heading and apply a Heading style. This also rebuilds the navigation pane and table of contents.
- Flattened tables. Select the lines and use Insert, then Table, then Convert Text to Table.
- Repeated headers, footers and page numbers. These are extracted as normal text on every page. Search for them and delete.
- Missing images. Copy them from the original PDF, or take a screenshot, and paste them back in.

File Size, Limits and Privacy
- One file at a time. There is no batch mode.
- Size. The maximum file size is 4 MB, and the tool checks this before uploading. If your PDF is larger, split it into smaller parts and convert them separately.
- File type. Only PDF files are accepted, and the output is always DOCX.
- No signup and no watermark. The Word file contains only your text.
- Download name. The file is saved as
converted.docx, so rename it after downloading.
PDF vs DOCX: Which Format to Use When
| DOCX (Word) | ||
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Sharing and printing a fixed layout | Writing and editing |
| Looks the same everywhere | Yes | Can shift with fonts and app versions |
| Easy to edit | No | Yes |
| Text reflows when edited | No | Yes |
| Typical use | Final contracts, invoices, forms, ebooks | Drafts, templates, collaborative documents |
A practical workflow is to keep the DOCX as your working copy and export a PDF whenever you need to send a final version. Convert from PDF to Word only when the original source file is no longer available.
