Choosing the Output Size for a High-Resolution PNG

An SVG has no fixed resolution, so the size you set here decides how sharp the PNG is. When you load a file, the converter reads its width and height (or its viewBox) and suggests a size with the longest side capped at 512 pixels. From there you can pick a preset of 256, 512, 1024 or 2048 pixels, or type any width and height up to 8192 pixels per side, the largest canvas that every current browser handles reliably.

With the aspect ratio locked, presets apply to the longer side and the other side is calculated for you, so a wide logo is never stretched into a square. Unlock it only when you want to force exact dimensions, and expect the artwork to stretch to fill them.

Working out 2x and 3x sizes

There is no separate scale switch. Multiply the size the image will be displayed at by the screen density you are targeting and enter the result:

Displayed at 200 x 200 px
1x  ->  200 x 200
2x  ->  400 x 400   (most phones and laptops)
3x  ->  600 x 600   (high-density phones)

Typical sizes

UseCommon PNG size (px)
Browser favicon16 x 16, 32 x 32, 48 x 48
Apple touch icon180 x 180
Android and PWA icons192 x 192 and 512 x 512
App store icon artwork1024 x 1024
Social share image (Open Graph)Around 1200 x 630
Logo for documents or slides1024 to 2048 on the longest side

For a full favicon set from one image, the favicon generator is quicker than exporting each size by hand.

SVG to PNG with a Transparent Background

Transparent is the default. Any area of the SVG that has no shape or fill stays see-through in the PNG, which is what you want for logos and icons placed on colored backgrounds. The checkerboard in the preview marks the transparent areas and is not part of the export.

Choose Solid Color when the destination does not handle transparency well. Some apps and social platforms show transparent areas as black or white, which can make a dark logo disappear. Pick the color with the picker or type a hex value.

If the PNG has a background you did not choose, the SVG itself probably contains a full-size rectangle as its first element. Remove that shape in your editor and convert again.

Keep the SVG as your master file and use it directly on your own website. Export a PNG when a platform will not accept SVG. Large PNGs can be heavy, so for use on web pages run the export through the image optimizer or convert it with the WebP converter.

Common SVG to PNG Problems and Fixes

Text shows in the wrong font

The conversion uses your browser to draw the SVG, and for security reasons the browser does not load web fonts or other outside files while doing so. Text falls back to a font installed on your device. The dependable fix is to convert text to outlines (paths) in your design tool before exporting the SVG.

Linked images are missing

Photos or textures referenced by URL inside the SVG are not fetched, for the same reason. Embed them in the SVG as base64 data, which most editors offer as an export option.

The image is cropped, tiny or blurry

This usually points to a missing or incorrect viewBox. The viewBox tells the browser which area of the drawing to scale. Without it, the artwork may stay at its original pixel size in a corner of a larger canvas, or lose sharpness when enlarged. A correct root element looks like this:

<svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"
     width="120" height="120" viewBox="0 0 120 120">

The conversion fails

Check that the file is valid, well-formed SVG: a file that cannot be parsed as XML is rejected when you load it. The converter adds the xmlns attribute and explicit pixel width and height values itself before rendering, because some browsers refuse to draw an SVG without them. Output is limited to 8192 pixels per side; on phones and older devices even that can exceed the available memory, so try a smaller size if a multi-thousand pixel export does not download.

The PNG file is large

PNG size depends on pixel dimensions, not on how simple the SVG was. Export only as large as you need, then compress the result.

How to Use

    Drag and drop your SVG file or click to browse

  2. 2

    Adjust the output dimensions (width and height, up to 8192 px per side)

  3. 3

    Toggle aspect ratio lock if you need custom proportions

  4. 4

    Choose between transparent or solid color background

Why This Tool Matters for SEO

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) files are perfect for logos and icons due to their infinite scalability, but many platforms require PNG images. Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn often don't display SVG files correctly. Email clients, older software, and many web applications also require raster images. Converting SVG to PNG allows you to use your vector graphics anywhere while maintaining quality at your chosen resolution.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why convert SVG to PNG?

While SVGs are excellent for web use due to their scalability, many platforms and applications only support raster formats like PNG. Social media platforms, email clients, presentation software, and older applications often require PNG images. Converting at a high resolution ensures your graphics look crisp everywhere.

How do I maintain quality during conversion?

To maintain maximum quality, export your PNG at 2x or 3x the size you need for display. For example, if you need a 100x100 image, export at 200x200 or 300x300. This ensures crisp display on high-DPI (Retina) screens. Our converter supports any custom dimension you specify.

Is my SVG file secure?

Absolutely! Your SVG files never leave your browser. All processing happens locally on your device using HTML5 Canvas technology. We don't upload, store, or have access to any of your files. This makes the conversion process completely private and secure.

What is the maximum file size I can convert?

SVG files up to 10 MB are accepted, and the PNG can be up to 8192 x 8192 pixels, which is the largest canvas every current browser can handle reliably. All processing happens in your browser, so very complex SVGs or very large outputs may take a moment depending on your device.

Can I convert multiple SVGs at once?

Currently, our tool processes one SVG at a time to ensure the best quality and allow you to customize each conversion. For batch conversions, simply convert each file individually with your preferred settings.

Why does my converted PNG have a white background?

If your SVG has transparent areas and you selected "Solid Color" background, those areas will be filled with your chosen color. To preserve transparency, make sure to select "Transparent" in the background options before converting.
